Our practice is part of the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland ICB who are responsible for planning, arranging and ensuring the availability and quality or health services to local people. The ICB took over from the Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) and their main functions can be summarised as follows:
- Develop a plan to meet health and healthcare needs of our population;
- Responsible for allocating NHS resources (budgets) to deliver the plan across LLR;
- Ensure that local NHS organisations are working well together, as well as with local government, and establish join working arrangements with partners;
- Arrange provision of health services in line with allocated resources across LLR;
- Hold the NHS organisations in LLR to account for the services they provide;
- Be responsible for certain functions on behalf of NHS England, such as arranging dental, ophthalmic and pharmaceutical services, as well as arranging very specialised services;
- Lead local plans for developing key NHS resources, including:
- Our workforce;
- Digital and data
- Estates, procurement, supply chain and commercial strategies to maximise value for money;
- Ensure there are robust local plans in place for emergency preparedness, resilience and response to major incidents and unexpected issues such as the recent Covid 19 pandemic;
- Ensure the availability and optimum use of health data relating to the LLR population;
The ICB will also play a key role in the development of the local economy.
