Cold
A cold is a contagious viral infection of your nose and throat (upper respiratory tract). Its usually harmless although it may feel that way. You can often treat a cold without seeing your GP. You should begin to feel better in about a week or two. For further information click here.
Flu
Flu is a contagious viral infection caused by the influenza virus that infects the nose, throat and the lungs. Flu will often get better on its own, but it can make some people seriously ill. For further information click here.
Cold Sores
Cold sores are common and usually clear up on their own within 10 days. However there are things you can do to help ease the pain. For further information click here.
Coughs
A cough will usually clear up on its own within 3 to 4 weeks. However, if you have had a persistent cough for more than 3 weeks you may need to seek medical help. For further information click here.
Animal Bites
Most animal bites are not serious, but you may need to get medical help if the bite is severe or there are signs of infection. For further information click here.
Burns and Scalds
Burns and scalds are damage to the skin usually caused by heat. Both are treated in the same way. A burn is caused by dry heat – for example, by an iron or a fire. A scald is caused by something wet, such as hot water or steam. For further information click here.
Cuts and Grazes
Most cuts and grazes can be treated at home and will start to heal in a few days. However, some wounds may need to be treated by a medical professional if there is a risk of infection or the cut is serious. For further information click here.
Headaches
